Visit#4: Power Plant
In power plant, all the works are included light and sounds elements. For example, the Bellflowers, the bells which on the tree will buzz when the bell’s light turned on. Each work's idea is based on the specifty site of the park. For example, the Light Insects, this work is used a tree inside the park and place the light equipment fly around that tree. The site and the work merged togather and changed my way of seeing to the specific place.
This event held in a park, so each work is connected by a path. The experience of this event is different from an exhibition or gallery; the works in gallery are very separate, each of them has their own purposes, viewer focus on a single point. But in power plant, I felt I was inside a large installation. I just fall into a different world. A world that was full of lights, different sound and moody atmosphere.
Moreover, the way of displaying in power plant is also different. This event is opened at night, the darkness hides the environment’s details, each work linked together by the darkness. The light effect makes me to discover object which around me and the light guide me to walk inside the park. The light effect enhanced the space of the specific place.

Artwork Type: Installation
This work is a time based work. Each performance is around 15 seconds. This work will have about 10 seconds rest after each performance. The fluorescent tubes flick randomly during the performance. Each fluorescent tubes flick less than 1 second. This work will produce thunder sound when the fluorescent tubes flick. The light of them are extremely bright. The electric thunder sound is also very loudly.
When the fluorescent tubes flick, that place become extremely brighten. We can see the textures of the rocks clearly. Many fluorescent tubes place on different positions, some the fluorescent tubes place on top of rock; some of them place on the bottom and this work is about 2m tall. That place is near a path. The audience stands on the path and sees the performance.
I really like this work. The flick effect is very match with the thunder sound. When I stood near the rock and wait the performance, I felt very anxious because of the darkness and I had a message in my mind -- something else will happen soon. After that the fluorescent tubes flick randomly and produce a lot of electric thunder sounds, my eyes saw brighten, texture of the rock and I felt the power of the rocks and lights. It brings me many visual pressures. The space becomes larger and changes the atmosphere from silent to violence.
During the performance, I wish the flick hold longer because I cannot see the rocks clearly within 1 second; I want to see more and more. Maybe because of the whole trip are in darkness, I very love light at that moment.
In this installation, a simple rock becomes special. The rocks texture and forms, outlines are strongly showed up. The electric thunder sounds helps to increase the power of the flicks. I really like this work; it gave me a different experience of installation.
